Summer 2025 CSLP Update

Major Federal Student Loan Changes Are Here

Is Your CSLP Program Access Up To Date?

The student loan landscape has shifted dramatically with the signing of the OBBB Act on July 4, 2025, creating the most significant changes to federal student loans in years.

Critical Updates Include:

  • Forced collections on defaulted loans resumed (though Social Security offsets were quickly reversed)
  • Interest began accruing on SAVE plan loans starting August 1, 2025
  • Partial financial hardship requirement eliminated for Income-Based Repayment (IBR)

Game-Changing Deadlines Approaching:

  • July 1, 2026: The pivotal date when borrowing ANY new loan permanently limits repayment options
  • July 1, 2028: SAVE, Pay As You Earn, and Income Contingent Repayment plans will be eliminated entirely

Revolutionary Changes Coming:

  • New Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) with 1-10% of the full adjusted gross income calculations
  • Graduate PLUS loans will be eliminated starting July 2026
  • 30-year forgiveness timeline under RAP
  • $10 minimum monthly payment requirement
  • Severely limited options for Parent PLUS borrowers
  • Tax-free loan forgiveness expires December 31, 2025
