The Navient Student Loans Transfer to Aidvantage

What you need to know

By year’s end, Navient is expected to transfer its federal student loans owned by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to Aidvantage*. This change will not affect the existing terms, conditions, interest rates, loan discharge or forgiveness programs, or available repayment plans on the loans. Due to the coronavirus emergency, it will not change the temporary payment suspension and 0% interest benefits borrowers are currently receiving.

It’s crucial to watch out for notices in emails, letters, or both on more details about your loan transfers. Borrowers should be careful to read these thoroughly.

*Important Note: This transfer does not apply to Family Federal Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans and/or private student loans currently serviced by Navient.

Common Questions About Navient’s Transfer

How will I know when my federally-owned loans have been transferred from Navient to Aidvantage?

When your ED-owned loans are transferred from Navient to Aidvantage, you’ll be notified by email or letter (or both). These communications will include an initial notice about the transfer and contact information for Aidvantage.

In addition to the communications you’ll receive before your account is transferred, Aidvantage will communicate with you after your loans have been fully transferred.

This post-transfer notice will explain that your ED-owned loans have been transferred and that Aidvantage will assist you with your account on ED’s behalf going forward.

After the transfer of my loans is complete, will I have to reinitiate any other actions, such as reapplying for a deferment or forbearance?

No. Loan status information will be included when your ED-owned loans are transferred from Navient to Aidvantage. You shouldn’t experience a break or gap in any status (such as deferment or forbearance) that applies to your federally-owned loans because of the transfer.

Contact Navient (before transfer) or Aidvantage (after transfer) for assistance if you are concerned about a break or gap.

After the transfer of my loans is complete, will I have to reinitiate any services, such as access via the web, electronic correspondence, and automatic debit or web payments?

No, not for this loan transfer. Normally when your ED-owned loans transfer from one federal loan servicer to another, you need to contact the new servicer to reinitiate some services related to your account.

For this transfer, all the information and services will be transferred along with your account. For instance, you will log in to the Aidvantage website using your existing Navient login details.

After your loans have been transferred, if you have any questions about your account services—such as account login, automatic debit, or electronic correspondence—contact Aidvantage for assistance.

As more details develop, we will post them here for student loan borrowers and their financial advisors.
